go to or
(to apply for student loans and grants)
You have a few options for financing your education. You can go to the public library and check out what information that they have on scholarships for nursing. There are thousands of scholarships out there that go unclaimed. There is also a link on SallieMae.com that will bring you to a page all about scholarships. You should try to get free money before you apply for any private loans.
Other than that there are private loans, I have found through financing my husbands education that private loans are pretty much all the same. There is Sallie Mae, which is the most popular. The only problem is there are deadlines and then you have to wait for the school to send the enrollment verification and the whole process takes awhile. My husband and I get our loans through Astrive (yes the commercial on TV) and we love them. The process to get the loan is really easy and we get our money pretty quickly. Our interest rate is actually 1% lower than what Sallie Mae offered us and we have deffered payment until he’s graduated. So, 1% means a whole bunch of money in the end. You can check with your bank. A lot of banks offer private loans.
It’ll be easier on you and your boyfriend if you guys have a cosigner. My father cosigns our loans just to get us a lower interest rate. My dad has good credit and with him as our cosigner he saves us an average of about 3% on every loan we get.
Also check and see what kind of programs they have for nursing loan payback. There are government programs and you can find info online. My husband is going into teaching and I know there are programs that help you pay back your loans if you choose a “service career”. They can lower your interest rates if nothing else.
Unfortunately education has become somewhat of a luxury that the fortunate can easily obtain but has become increasingly hard for us average folks unless you are willing to take on a bunch of debt.
There are tons of scholarships available online that you and your boyfriend can apply for. You should always try to get a scholarship to help you pay for tuition before you get a student loan. You can read about scholarships here:
