no, but you cannot have any unpaid student loans

If you have really bad credit you probably wont get the loans

You do not necessarily have to have good credit to get student loans. My credit is pretty atrocious and I still got some.

you don’t need good credit for grants b/c those don’t need to be paid back. you might be able to get a private loan, but the interest rate will probably be very high.

You dont have to have good credit for the goverment loans, but you will have a hard time getting private loans if you cant get enough from the goverment end.

  6. student Said,

Grants are free money. Government loans such as Perkins and Ford loans do not require credit. However, private loans through banks and Sallie Mae, Nelie Mae, etc. require that you have at least 1-3 accounts in good standing and sometimes on low ratings a verifiable job. It all depends on who you go with. But speaking from personal experience of being turned down numerous times, yo have to have some type of credit worthiness or they will ask for a co-signer.

Your credit history will not impact your ability to get federal grants. It also will not prevent you from getting a federal student loan. It is unlikely you would be able to get a private alternative loan based on your credit history.
